The Wood Waste Brise Soleil uses pieces of wood waste from lumber milling and building construction processes to create a shading system for a building exterior. Louvers are fixed to adjustable clips to allow for optimum shading of building surfaces with different solar orientations. Parametric software quickly determines the optimum angles for the louvers on any building surface. The optimized system is about 5% more efficient in selectively blocking and admitting solar radiation, resulting in significantly lower energy usage in heating and cooling the building. The project was featured at the 2009 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Italy as part of the 2000 Watt Living exhibition sponsored by SAIC.
