The Center for the Urban Ecosystem proposes an addition to an existing seven-story structure in Chicago's West Loop dedicated to building community around the production, consumption and decomposition processes of the urban ecosystem. The space features a six story live wall fed by rainwater and photovoltaic roof canopies. The addition introduces passive climatization systems to reduce energy demands of the existing building. A new building introduces recycling and composting resources to a neighborhood that currently does not provide them.
